Pricing

 

  • Sessions are priced at the rates below.
  • All sessions run for 55 minutes, from the beginning of the hour until 55 minutes past.
  • All sessions are 1:1 and conducted online via Zoom.
KS3 - £55KS4 - £60KS5 - £65

Payment

 

  • You will receive an invoice for the following month’s tutoring around two weeks prior to the beginning of each month.
  • Payment for each month’s tutoring is due by the last day of the month prior.
  • New tutees may request a trial session charged at the normal lesson rate. Payment for this session must be received at least 48 hours prior to the session. If the tutee wishes to continue with the sessions, payment for the remainder of that month must be received 48 hours prior to the next session.

Cancellation and Refunds

 

  • I would be grateful if as much notice as possible is given where a tutee will miss a regular session, i.e. in advance because of family or school commitments, or on the day because of illness.
  • Refunds cannot be given where a tutee misses a session. However, I will reschedule the session wherever possible. 
  • In the unlikely event that should I have to postpone or cancel a session, for example in the case of illness or technical difficulties, I will endeavour to offer as much notice as possible, to offer an alternative session, or failing that, to offer a refund for that session.
  • Arrangements can be cancelled by either side at any time. I would ask, as a courtesy, that two weeks’ notice is given.

Holidays

 

  • Normal sessions take place during term time only. Please see the list of term dates and school holidays on the final page of this document. 
  • Please be aware that there may be a difference between your local school holidays and those of Dr Humanities. Where a discrepancy in holiday dates affects your attendance at a session, my usual payment and cancellation policies apply. 
  • Sessions do not run on bank holiday Mondays and other bank holidays. I will endeavour to rearrange any sessions which fall on a bank holiday Monday during term-time.

Coverage

 

  • The setting of formal homework, marking and giving feedback on written work, and the writing of reports, do not form part of Dr Humanities tuition, unless taking place as part of the normal programme schedule during normal tuition hours. However, Christopher may be able to offer such additional services for an additional fee.
  • Tuition may cover any aspect of the tutee’s course of study / exam specification. Humanities courses sometimes include sensitive subject matter about the human world, such as relationships and war. Christopher is fully trained and very experienced in teaching these topics to students. Parents may like to familiarise themselves with these aspects of their child’s course of study. 
  • Tuition always begins with a ‘my tuition journey’ session, where Christopher and the tutee, informed by conversations with parents, establish their tuition needs: where they are right now, where they would like to be, how we might get there. This session is indispensable to establishing an effective programme of tuition.

Progress

 

  • Christopher is skilled and experienced in humanities pedagogy. He will consistently promote academic progress and excellence, effective study and examination skills, and a strong mindset.
  • However, in common with any educator, Christopher cannot guarantee that a tutee will realise the performance or grades which they hope to achieve.

Obligations

 

Christopher:

  • Is suitably qualified and experienced to tutor in History, Geography and Religious Studies, as detailed in the following table.
  • Will remain alert to developments in the study and examination of these subjects.
  • Will prepare and deliver educative and engaging tuition.
  • Will endeavour to tailor tuition to the individual needs of all tutees.
  • Will develop student study and exam skills and a strong mindset.
  • Holds a current enhanced DBS certificate, registered on the automatic update system and checked daily.
  • Has completed Qualified Tutor ‘Safeguarding Essentials for Tutors’ training in July 2025, and will fulfil all obligations with regards to safeguarding.
  • Will hold, maintain and abide by a suitable privacy policy.
  • Can be contacted at any time. He will respond as soon as possible during business hours.

Christopher’s Qualifications

  • BA History (University of Leeds)
  • MA English Literature (University of Reading)
  • PhD History (University of Leeds)
  • PGCE History (Leeds Trinity University)
  • Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (Leeds Trinity University)

Christopher’s Experience

  • 20+ years an educator
  • Experienced teacher of all humanities subjects: History, Geography, Religious Studies
  • 10+ years a departmental / faculty leader, Director of Learning for Humanities, and a senior school leader
  • Experience of teaching in both state and independent schools
  • Experienced examiner for multiple humanities subjects and exam boards at both GCSE and A level 
  • Appointed Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for Humanities in the Yorkshire region

Tutees (your child) and parents:

  • Agree to provide me with a list of topics they are studying at school in their tuition subject, and if possible the order they will be studied in. 
  • Agrees to fully participate in tuition sessions to the best of their ability.
  • Agree to the use of their camera and microphone unless otherwise agreed.
  • Agree to complete any tasks or assignments outside of tuition sessions upon which tuition is dependent.
  • Agrees to arrive on time for each session prepared with any necessary books, folders or other materials. In case of lateness, I will send a reminder after five minutes and wait for a further five.
  • Agree to make me aware of any specific needs they might have or accommodations they may need.

Acceptance of terms and conditions

 

  • By sending your child to their first session it will be deemed that you accept these terms and conditions.

Half term holiday: Saturday 24th October – Sunday 1st November
Monday 2nd November – Friday 18th December (7 weeks)
Christmas holiday: Saturday 19th December – Sunday 3rd January

Spring Term

Monday 4th January – Friday 12th February (6 weeks)
Half term holiday: Saturday 13th February – Sunday 21st February
Monday 22nd February – Friday 2nd April (6 weeks)
Easter holiday: Friday 26th – Monday 29th March and Saturday 3rd – Sunday 18th April.
Additional sessions are bookable for exam students.

Summer Term

Monday 19th April – Friday 28th May (6 weeks)
Bank Holiday: Monday 3rd May
Half term holiday: Saturday 29th May – Sunday 6th June
Monday 7th June – Friday 16th July (6 weeks)
Summer holiday: Saturday 17th July – Tuesday 31st August
